Right on the Edge

So as of writing this sentence it is exactly 2 days, 2 hours, 48 minutes and 30 seconds until I am on the plane.

I have been busy saying my goodbyes over the last few days. I cope really well until I am on my own and I reflect on what just happened. It's usually when I am driving away and it all whooshes over me like a big depressing wave. It has been a very special time, though, and I feel very honoured with all the people who care so much about me.

I got very nostalgic about Christchurch last week and took Lola for her last big drive. We went up to Victoria Park and round the city. It was the most stunning day with views all the way to the alps and a glorious haze hovering over the suburbs. I found this cute little lookout point behind the Sign of the Takahe (which had very little damage) and got the shot below.

As well as the numerous farewells from friends and family I have (rather impulsively) booked a trip to India with my friend Alex. We were both quite keen on Egypt and Jordan, but with the political unrest and uncertainty we were forced to look further afield. I'm not sure which one of us suggested India, but we both had never really considered the option before, and then immediately got very excited about it. We are meeting in Delhi on the 23rd of December and flying straight to Dharamsala, which is the home of the Dalai Llama and the exiled Tibetan Government, before returning to Delhi after Christmas to take an 11 day Gecko Tour - Jewels of the North which covers the 'golden triangle'. Along with being very excited to take the trip, it is lovely to know there is only a few months until i see a familiar and friendly face again.

As all the New Zealander's will know, the last few days have been epically snowy, and Im looking out my window at huge drifts. This amount of snow is extremely unusual for Christchurch, especially twice in one year. There is a little bit of trepidation about my departure, but I'm sure it will be clearer by then, and the last few jobs I need to do are being pushed back, so fingers crossed I can fit them in! Kitten is absolutely hating it - he is such a big wuss, but is right now curled on my bed with his very own hottie.

I have had my final night out in Christchurch, which is not nearly as fun as it used to be, but it was the people who made it count. These are the beautiful Alex and Sarah - will miss you guys so much! Next time I update I will be in Qatar, in the sweltering heat, with my own little apartment and a whole new life! Hope NZ enjoys the rest of the snow!
