Budapest - Hungary
Generally…
Budapest is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with the Danube curling right through the centre, dividing Buda, on one side, with Pest on the other. The famous attractions of the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway make it a magnet for tourists.
We went up Gellért Hill as soon as we got into the city and looked over the Danube to both parts of the city. Then we had a fleeting visit at the beautiful Halászbástya or 'Fisherman's Bastion' - a neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque castle built in 1902, taking it's name from the guild of fishermen that defended Castle Hill during the Middle Ages. That night we had a very traditional Hungarian dinner - meat. And some more meat. Ryan had this...thing...that looked like a large pizza, but instead of a base of bread, it was a giant slab of pork, covered in cheese, with a load of spaghetti and meatballs dumped on top. It was epic. As was his attempt at finishing it. Was kind of gross to sit next to, to be honest!
Inking my homie, Marcus. |
The next morning we had a bit of a lie in, did some washing, and wandered around the city. The whole place was too overwhelming in the time span we had - it was a definite on the return-here list, so we took the day off from rushing around like headless chickens. We did take in the Terror Museum, which was fabulously done, a real rival for the fantastic Schindler museum in Krakow, and then Ryan, Dane and I went to the supermarket and bought VEGETABLES, of all things, and cooked dinner (crazy!!). And it was so good!!
Ah real food goodness!! |
