For our last stop of the trip we were in Copenhagen, but we were there to see Blair, who moved over six months earlier to live with his lady-love Kirstine. To commemorate the occasion, we coined the hashtag #bestofgeeedit which translates loosely to the best three people out of our friendship group and set about a campaign of snapchats to the missing members back home.
Upon arrival, Blair met us at the train station and we went directly to his apartment. No, we didn't. We stopped off for wine!
Kirstine cooked us Blair's favourite, and it was super good. And really nice to have a home cooked meal!
The next morning, with Kirstine working, Blair took us on a custom bike tour of Denmark's capital (Which, for those not in the know, is where 'Zealand' is.) and a boat tour of the canals.

One of my favourite buildings of the whole trip - the extensive copper roof was great, but those are DRAGONS making up the spire. |
The Old Stock Exchange was built in 1625 to strengthen the local economy and is one of the oldest buildings in Copenhagen.
We also visited the Rundetaarn, a17th century tower and observatory with the oldest functioning observatory in Europe at the top. To get up to the view, you need to take the spiral walk, which is a 268,5-meter long ramp, built so the King could ride his horse up instead of walking. This means that we, as commoners, walk around 209 meters to get to the top even though the tower is only 36 meters tall.
A bit of scary happened on the bike home at night - we had crossed the road and were waiting for Sarah, who missed the light and a pedestrian was hit by a car. The whole windscreen shattered and there was a body shaped dent in the hood. We were the closest and so for a while, I had to talk to the poor man and try to get him not to move. After a while, he was more coherent and another lady turned up who I assume was medically trained (despite speaking in another language she seemed fully in command of the situation). So we stepped back and headed home, not wanting to get in the way. I think he would have been ok as due to a few clues we suspect he might have been drinking and therefore might have been a bit bouncier than someone else might have been.
We had some quiet time at home before heading for a late dinner.
The lighting here was a bit unfortunate :D |
It has been a long trip and almost every single part has been amazing, so naturally, it is hard to come to the end. But as I remarked to Sarah as we headed to the airport, it is much easier to face going home and back to normality after a five-week holiday than my usual two.
And a little surprise on the first long-haul - our giant seat row of 85 gave it away, but we were to fly on an A380!
